The Story of Green Gates
In 2002, René Mashburn rented an empty 60 year old, 10,000 square foot metal warehouse (empty for over 20 years) and designed a store that in 2003 was given the Commercial Beautification Award by the City of Fairhope. Working retail was not the path that brought her to store ownership. Before opening Green Gates, she had an exciting career working in publishing in the UK—4 years in Edinburgh, Scotland followed by 3 years in London.
When she returned to the US, she became the Director of Community Development for the City of Fairhope, a position she held for 10 years.
With an interest in home décor and an eye for design, she opened the prominent wrought iron green gates in November of 2002. Her decade of success is due to the inviting atmosphere, green gates market – Fairhope ALthe selection of unique inventory and presentation. Everything is presented in beautiful vignettes.
